LEMEX is an inexpensive lemon perfumed liquid suitable for general use as a cleaner or reodorant. LEMEX is
suitable for surface cleaning and use on other Class 1 Medical Devices and has been entered onto the Australian
Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). Using LEMEX as directed ensures Healthcare facilities comply with current Healthcare regulations.

LEMEX is a neutral detergent containing a powerful cationic surfactant and a fresh long-lasting lemon perfume.
Being neutral it is non-corrosive to most fibres and common hard surfaces including normal domestic, commercial
and most hospital/medical flooring.

The principle use of LEMEX is as a mopping detergent. LEMEX can also be used throughout Hospital Operating
Theatres including for cleaning of operating tables, theatre trolleys, lights and other equipment in the operating
theatre and environs. VIRACLEAN should be used where general disinfection is required. Where used for cleaning
Medical Devices LEMEX should be used as a cleaner only and subsequent disinfection, where required, should be
done with an Instrument Disinfectant such as INSTRUMAX PINK.

Here are the 5 most frequently asked questions  regarding Whiteley LEMEX Cleaner/Reodorant (5L, SKU: 120146):

1. Is Whiteley LEMEX a disinfectant?

No. LEMEX is a neutral, general-purpose cleaning detergent and reodorant, not a disinfectant. While it uses a powerful cationic surfactant to lift dirt, oils, and microbes, it does not kill bacteria or viruses. For healthcare or high-risk areas requiring true disinfection, you must follow up your clean with an approved disinfectant (like Whiteley Viraclean or Surfex).

2. Can it be used on medical equipment?

Yes, as a cleaner only. LEMEX is registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG 125529) as a Class 1 Medical Device. This means it is fully compliant for routine cleaning on non-critical medical devices like operating tables, theatre trolleys, and examination lights before a formal disinfection process takes place.

3. What are the recommended dilution rates?

Dilution depends on the task at hand:

  • Normal General Cleaning (Floors/Benches): Dilute 25mL per 1 Litre of potable water.

  • Heavy-Duty Cleaning (or if soiled with bodily fluids): Dilute 50mL per 1 Litre of water.

  • Autoscrubbers: Dilute 15mL per 1 Litre of water.

  • Dedicated Deodorising: Dilute 200mL per 1 Litre of water.

4. Is it safe for delicate floor finishes and fibers?

Yes. Because LEMEX has a completely neutral pH (ranging between 6.0 and 8.0), it has excellent material compatibility. It is non-corrosive and safe to use frequently on sealed commercial floors, delicate vinyl hospital flooring, hard surfaces, and even water-safe fibers without stripping the finish or causing degradation.

5. What personal protective equipment (PPE) is required?

According to the safety data sheet (SDS), LEMEX is classified as an eye irritant (GHS Category 2). While engineering controls and respiratory protection aren't normally required under standard conditions, you should wear safety glasses or chemical-resistant goggles and rubber gloves during extended use or handling of the concentrate to prevent skin and eye irritation.
